Jewellery Storage Ideas

As I may have previously mentioned, I'm currently going through the re-decoration of my bedroom. This is turning out to be a very lengthy process for a number of reasons: 1. I'm a student and don't receieve much income so sourcing budget friendly items is rather difficult. 2. I'm a perfectionist and will refuse to buy said items unless I am completely, 100% sure that I adore them. 3. I'm waiting for a small amount of building work to be finished in my room before I change anything around.

But, I'm taking this impatient time to allow myself to completely plan out exactly what I want in my bedroom. Wether that's the paint colour, furniture or decorative touches.

My first matter of importance was nail varnish storage (which I have actually sorted out and will hopefully be posting soon). Next, I've moved on to jewellery.

Personally, I don't wear a lot of jewellery but I seem to have accumilated a small collection through Christmas, birthdays and jewellery sales in my favourite stores (I'm looking at you, Topshop). Here is a small montage of inspirational photos focussing on the storage and display of jewellery.

Necklaces & Bracelets:

As you can see, I have two obvious ideas in mind: beautiful little dishes/plates or displayed in empty photo frames. As beautiful as the dishes are, I think I'm leaning more towards the photo frames for a 'reminder' of what jewellery I have, simply because it's displayed more simply and is visually easier to take notice of what pieces I have. The dishes are more of a decorative touch, where-as the photo frames are more of a storage device if you see what I mean. I can imagine a pretty dish containing smartly arranged pearl necklaces on my dressing table, with an ornate photo frame laden with necklaces and bracelets hanging above it!

Rings & Earrings:

Kind of similar to the storage above, these two ideas feature either hanging up on the wall or creatively thrown into a container of choice. For earrings, I'm liking the simple rail as it's a quick and easy thing to source and to install. A trip to Ikea's kitchen section would be ideal for something like this, and for a budget friendly price too. As for rings, I think I prefer them all in a jumble together, displayed as they are in these photos on either a pretty cake stand or a dish.

I hope you liked this post and that you've gained some inspiration from it. I'm not entirely certain on what I'm going to go with yet, but the photo frames are my favourite. Keep a look out for more roomspiration ideas as I spend my nights procrastinating on Pinterest when I'm supposed to be doing my theory work.

My (Beauty) To Do List Before 2014!

There's a tradition that I heard I don't even know how long ago about the new year that has stuck with me ever since: never leave anything unfinished.

So while I've blitzed my post-Christmas bedroom (which included wrapping paper-littered floors and presents that still hadn't found a home), I got to thinking about my beauty related things that needed doing. Thus, my beauty to do list was born.

Sorry about the dodgy photo quality, I took this picture on my phone!

Things To Do:

- Clean my make-up brushes. This involves all of my brushes, even the ones that I may or may not have used a few months ago that are still coated with a dusting of forgotten eye shadow or the wrong shade of foundation. I was lucky enough to receive the Real Techniques Core Collection for Christmas from my boyfriend's mum and although I've only had them a few days, they could do with a clean. To see how I clean my make-up brushes, click here.

- Empty my make-up bag and refresh with new products. I'm the sort of person that overfills their make-up bag with 'that lipstick I want to try' and all sorts of other random things that never see the light of day. So I've decided to clear out my make-up bag of all of these products (plus an insane amount of bobby pins) and to only replace the ones that I need. Also prime opportunity to introduce some new products into my routine.

- Clear out unwanted toiletries. As I'm sure everyone else did, I received quite a few shower gel gift sets this Christmas and my mum is also re-decorating our bathroom so I've decided to sort out my shower gel/bubble bath/body spray collection and to donate all my unopened and unwanted bits and pieces to a charity shop.

- Throw away empties. Following on from the point above, I'm 99% sure that I have more than a few empties lurking on my bathroom shelf. Now is the time to get rid of all of my empties!

- Re-organise make-up. As I think I've mentioned previously, I'm currently going through the re-decoration of my bedroom and I'm looking for some new ways to store and display my make-up. There are a few things I'd like to start using and a few that could do with being re-homed so new year is the perfect opportunity to start!

I hope you all had a lovely Christmas and have a wonderful new year! xx

Nail Varnish Storage Ideas

All photos have been taken from Pinterest

I'm currently going through the planning stages of re-decorating my bedroom: I say planning stages, because I've so far changed my mind about the colour scheme three times and I'm undecided on what sort of feel I'm going for. But one of my most solid (and probably most necessary) ideas is that to re-organise my make-up. At the moment it's mostly tucked away in drawers (to see my actual organisation click here) and I've decided I'd like to display it properly.

So I took to Pinterest to give me some inspiration and thought I'd share with you guys my favourite picks.

The first is to display my polishes in a beautiful glass storage jar. This idea to me seems to be a good one and a bad one: it's very pretty but seemingly impractical. Imagine wanting the polish at the bottle of the jar? The second and most realistic is to use a spice rack. I adore this idea, I think the polishes look so organised and you'd be able to see exactly what colours you have from a glance. The red ones are actually the Ikea spice racks which are just £3 each! Finally, the third idea is to display them on a cake stand. I think this one is so cute and would definitely look the prettiest on a dressing table, maybe with a few perfumes and make-up bits within the mix, too.

What do you think of these ideas? And how do you organise your nail varnish collection?

Look out for a few more photo based posts as I gain more ideas and inspiration (probably from Pinterest)!

Cheap Make-Up Storage Solutions #2

Hello everyone!

I have posted once before about what I use to storage the majority of my make-up (take-out boxes, anyone? here) but thought I'd give you a little insight into my new 'Blogging' table and the little storage solution I arranged to go with it.

This idea will definitely apply to any youtubers/bloggers/make-up obsessers (is that a word?) as, if you're like me, you end up purchasing new products on a regular basis and always remind yourself to try them out but never get around to it. This idea should help you out!

I was doing a spot of charity shop shopping the other day when I came across this beautiful tea set. It consisted of two teacups and saucers, a plate, a mini milk jug and a sugar bowl, and all for only £3! The set is made from frosted mint green glass that's covered in gorgeous metallic gold polka dots. I absolutely ADORE it. I've used one of the teacups and saucer sets for my rings, the sugar bowl for stray bobby pins and hair bands and here I'll show you what I've done with the milk jug and the plate.

This is how I store all of my 'try-outs' and 'to be reviewed' products. As you can see I have a few things placed here waiting to be used, so as well as showing you my storage idea I've given a little sneak peek into what reviews are coming up on my blog!

Personally, I think that having all of the products out on display like this (and conveniently placed right next to my bed) keep it fresh in my mind what products I've been meaning to try and also I just think it looks nice!

As you can see, tucked slightly behind the plate is the milk jug which I've chucked a few random pens and a pair of scissors in so I don't lose them! Just out of shot to the right are my blogging & college notebooks and my current novel of choice (The Night Circus if any of you were wondering!)

Hope you're all well, guys!

Cheap Make-Up Storage Solutions #1

I'm nothing if not resourceful when it comes to storage solutions, and I'm also a crazy organisational freak, so whilst me and my family were eating our tea a few nights ago and I watched my brother chomp down on his Chicken Fried Rice straight from the plastic box it came in, inspiration hit me!

This is one of the drawers that I stash all of my under-used make-up in. I had been pondering for a while how best to store all of this make-up in such a way that it didn't take me five minutes to find the eyeshadow I was after, but every storage solution I looked at online/in store was always more than I was willing to pay.

So what you see here are three Chicken Fried Rice cartons that I've put through my dishwasher twice and hand washed once just to be thorough. The length and width of the boxes are perfect for mascaras and eyeliners as well as compact powders and lipsticks.

In this box I keep most of my blushers, bronzers, foundations and other round shaped products like highlighters and shaders. On the left I have my compact foundations and a highlight & shade duo, on the right I have my blushers and bronzers. I just tucked a few foundation shades into the front where there was room.

In this box I keep my lip products. I haven't had time to organise this properly yet, so it looks a bit thrown together, but I want to take time to arrange each product seperately so it all fits. I have lip glosses, lipsticks, lip liners, compact lipsticks and glosses and a lip palette in here.

In this box I have my mascaras and a few liquid eyeliners. This was the smallest of the three boxes, but it's the perfect length for most of my mascaras. I also have a few palettes tucked down the side (Collection, MUA and an Acessorize one), and a little concealer set.

The bigger box at the back is actually a sweet box. You know, what corner shops have their pic 'n' mix in? Well, I discussed it with my local shop keeper and he's agreed to keep back all the boxes once the sweets have been sold.

In this bigger box I have my single eyeshadows, plus my extra-length eyeliners as they literally didn't fit anywhere else!

Altogether I've finally arranged my make-up in a way that I'm really happy with, and it hardly cost me a thing!
