Review: Trevor Sorbie Beautifully Straight Blow-Dry Spray

Ah, I do love the Boots Clearance Counter.

 

Especially as I picked up this bad boy for 50p, purely because it didn't come with a lid! To be honest, I wasn't even entirely sure what it was at the time, I just sort of saw the price and my favourite hair styling words 'heat defence' and 'straightening', grabbed it and was walking out with it five minutes later.

 

 

This spray is basically a heat defence and straightening blow-dry spray. I'm not going to lie, I wouldn't have even picked this up if I'd've walked past it on a normal shelf. I don't have much faith in straightening products, mostly because despite the fact my hair's no where near curly it always flicks out no matter what I use, so I wasn't exactly holding my breath with this one.

 

But, it actually works.

 

I would love to say to you guys that in the colder seasons I take my time building elaborate hairstyles and curling my hair but, to be honest, I mostly just spend that time in bed. Not always, of course, I do love curly hair for the fall time, but mostly I just sort of wake up early but get up late and end up rushing around, no time for straighteners or complicated twists.

 

So a spray like this is perfect for me. It's official name is Trevor Sorbie's Beautifully Straightened Protect, Flatten & Shine Spray and I can say it lives up to all it claims. It's supposed to be used as part of a whole straightening routine (including shampoos and straightening) but I just use it on it's own and it works just fine. It's heat defending properties means my hair's protected even when blow-drying and can be used when even straightening at the highest temperatures. It also leaves my hair soft and silky with a slight shine.

 

I'm not sure of the official method for using this - it doesn't give any specific instructions - but I use it when my hair's wet and it works just fine for me. The end result is perfectly straight hair that lasts for hours. This spray wont last longer than a day, but will take you til your next wash/straighten.

 

Overall Thoughts:

 

A straightening spray that does just what it says on the tin (bottle). I'm not sure how it would fare against wavy or curly hair, but us straight haired girls will definitely see results. It's reasonably priced at £5.59 and available from most Boots stores so if something like this is missing from your routine, give it a go! My only problem with it would be the scent - it has a faint alcoholic smell to it but you can't smell it once it's settled into your hair, although it does make me wonder about the ingredient list.

Update: Lush Seanik Shampoo Bar

 

Hi everyone!

 

I'm here today with an update on my Lush Seanik shampoo bar! I've seen a few other bloggers review these bars but I've never read an update that shows how long they've used it and how much is left so I thought I'd show you mine!

 

I first bought this shampoo bar back in April with the hopes that it would erase my doubts of how it would stand against my regular bottled shampoo and I can only say that it's done it's job - in more ways than one!

 

 

 

I use this shampoo bar 3 - 4 times a week, sometimes more if I'm going somewhere special, meaning it's seen me through over 50 washes so far and although the gorgeous blue colour has faded into a not-so-nice misty white it's washing power has remained the same. Size-wise, I think I've used around half meaning that Lush's promise of this bar seeing you through 80 - 100 washes is entirely right!

 

 

 

My natural hair is shoulder-length and fine, so maybe someone with longer/thicker hair than me would need to repurchase a little sooner but I find it's lasted longer than a regular bottled shampoo would, meaning that as well as meaning I have to purchase less, I've produced less waste which clogs up our landfills.

 

Post-wash this shampoo bar still leaves my hair feeling thicker and more volumised thanks to the added sea salt but still shiny and soft to touch due to the sea weed. I don't use any other volumising products on my hair anymore - something I always needed when using regular shampoos - which means that I simply need to blow-dry and straighten afterwards to get the desired effect.

 

Overall this shampoo bar is amazing - I would never dream of using a bottled shampoo again! It gives me all the volume and texture I desire whilst helping with the environment - something I feel as a blogger I should help people become more aware of.

How To: Volumise Long, Thick Hair

Hey guys! Lauren's been pestering me for so long to guest post on her blog and I've finally got around to it! I've had really thick, long hair for at least 6 years and although I've gone through different style phases I've always kept it relatively the same length. I've made a lot of mistakes with my hair, from washing it too often to using the wrong products but it's been a learning curve and I thought I'd share my almost-perfect routine with you!

Despite the thickness of my hair, I always find it lacks volume, making it seem dank and unhealthy. Most of my chosen products are of the volume-boosting kind, as these are the hardest workers when it comes to long, thick hair.

Tresemme 24 Hour Body Shampoo & Conditioner

I wash my hair roughly two times every week, I know it sounds 'dirty' but it is actually better to wash you hair the least amount of times possible so then all the natural oils in your hair can make it healthier. I've used so many different shampoo and conditioner's in the past 2-3 years, but I recently found this one and it is AMAZING! I would happily recomend it to anyone. Even though my hair is really thick I find that it seems a bit flat so I do tend to use body and volume hair care.

If you find that you've had enough of washing your hair every single day, then leave it one day and only wash it for the six day's and then gragually reduce it each week! .. it might feel and look very greasy but in time you won't regret any changes you make!

Charles Worthington; Salon Finish Body Booster Mousse

I normally use this mousse before I blow dry my hair, as it styles and gives volume once dry. It takes a while to get the hang of using it and you don't really see the difference but push through it and in time you will see the difference gradually rather than straight away. There is one negative, it makes your hair look greasy with-in a few days of using it but it'll last you til your next wash.

Charles Worthington; Salon Finish Satin Styling Spray

I have really used this one as much as my other products and it does do a really good job but it isn't the best. It does make your hair greasy in the next day or two.

Got2b Powder'ful; Voluming styling powder ( £4.07 -Boots)

I recevied this for Christmas and the first time I used it, it was amazing. You put it in your roots by putting it on your finger tips and making your fingers act like a comb. The outcome of it is good however you do need to back brush the rest of the top bit of your hair other wise it does look abit strange but it is still good! It's the same with most products it does go greasy after a while plus it takes a while to rub it in thoroughly.

Got2b Powder'ful; Big Volume Hairspray ( £4.05 -Boots)

My hair never really takes to hair spray but there is something different about this one! In my opinon it is brilliant! It doesn't last incredibly long but it last's a good amount of time for when I'm going out, so that's roughly four hours, which is still good considering the thickness of my hair and this one doesn't go greasy which is surprising!  

GHDs, Rollers, Hair Slides

When I straighten my hair it doesn't actually take that long, I would say roughly 45 minutes. I know it does sound along time to sit there just straightening your hair but it is worth it! I go through different stages where I sometimes like my hair straight but my hair is naturally curly so I also like that. It depends on what I need from my hair each day - on college days it's up in a ponytail or a bun and when I go out I like it down and curly. That sounds easy but it isn't, I need at least two hair bands and tones of slides!

LUSH Shampoo Bar 'Seanik' REVIEW!

On an impromptu trip into town on a freezing cold Sunday afternoon with the boyfriend recently, we were stumbling around in our knitwear on the way to ANOTHER gaming store when we passed LUSH and, obviously, I dragged him inside to 'get out of the cold for a minute'. At least that's what I told him.

I've always been a big fan of LUSH for their super-inventive products and the gorgeous scents that accompany said products, but I've never really been truly commited. That was until I picked up a copy of 'The Lush Times' (Lush's newspaper version of a brochure) and read Dame Vivienne Westwood's article about Global Warming. I thought a lot about how I could switch up my normal cosmetics and products in exchange for ones that are more planet-friendly.

Which is why I picked up this Shampoo Bar (£5.25). After discussing my requirements with the sales assistant, I decided upon 'Seanik', an ocean-inspired bar with softening seaweed and volumising sea salt. I was a bit skeptical of it's abilities at first but now it's safe to say I'm in love.

How to use:

To my pleasant surprise, this bar bubbles up extremely well, meaning I only need a light lather on my fine shoulder-length hair. You simply wet your hair down (works best when your hair is literally soaked) and rub the bar three to four times around your head. Personally I swirl once on my hair line, once half-way down my hair and once near the ends to create even bubble coverage.

Results:

My hair felt soft and manageable with a subtle, natural bounce. It gave me the all of the volume and texture of a sea-salt spray but without the heavy product residue. I wash my hair with this every two to three days and it's still the same size that it was when I purchased it. It's supposed to last 80 - 100 washes (depending on hair length and thickness) and for me, I think that's possible. 

How to store:

The key to making this last in to allow it to dry properly. I leave mine in my bathroom window sill and then transfer it to my old Sanctuary Spa Scrub tub to keep it hidden from my 5 year old sister!
